Your body's connective tissue

What is Fascia?

Fascia is the connective tissue found throughout the body down to the cellular level in a 3-dimensional web. The fascial system is the largest system in the body and the only system that touches and influences all other systems: skeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory and digestive systems for example.

The fascial system can become restricted or “tight” due to traumatic injury, inflammation, scar tissue, surgical scars, sports injuries, poor postural habits, stress and psychological trauma of all types. Restricted fascia can impose up to 2,000 lbs per square inch of pressure on pain-sensitive structures such as nerves, blood vessels, organs and joints. Fascial restrictions can lead to progressive pain patterns and an overall decline in health.

The John F. Barnes Approach to myofascial release is a gentle hands on therapy that works with your body’s natural healing process to release restrictions in the fascia to reduce or eliminate pain and other symptoms. The enormous role this fascial system plays in our overall health and well-being is now being acknowledged in the medical community.
